Chocolate6For many, the word "chocolate" is usually subsequently followed by groans of delight and much drooling and this was certainly the case for the people who attended our Chocolate Experience on Tuesday 5th April. Under the tutelage of master chocolatier, Michael Levy, the audience were led through the history, geography and botany of chocolate from cocoa bean to luxury truffle with Michael recounting his own personal anecdotes throughout. Of course, the main attraction was, undoubtedly, the sampling of the products but there was no free for all gorging but, instead, a carefully curated array of samples from cocoa mass and cocoa butter to hand dipped chocolates and truffles which Michael guided the audience through explaining the nuances of taste, texture and design.

Nothing went to waste as guests were given doggy bags at the end of the evening in order to gather up remaining samples to take home and enjoy later. It was an evening designed to stimulate the brain as well as the taste buds and it didn't fail in either respect.

Constantwife4Following on from their success with The Vicar of Dibley, The Woolgatherers of Heswall once again played to packed houses with their 3 night run of W.Somerset Maugham's "The Constant Wife". With it's wonderful stage sets, stunning costumes and superb acting, the play was a visual feast as well as garnering many laughs with it's quick quips and on the nose observations. The Woolgatherers continue to provide Heswall with fine drama and comedy and the support of the community in their endeavours is greatly appreciated. If you missed their latest show, be sure to catch their next presentation, "Ladies in Lavender" 19th-21st May.

HHCinema1This week saw the return of evening cinema to Heswall when we showcased our big screen to the public with free showings of Suffragette. Both evenings were packed out and people were happy to mingle beforehand with a drink from our bar before enjoying the film. Thanks go to the staff and volunteers at the hall who helped it run so smoothly.

Our next film night is Wednesday 9th March when we'll be showing "Brooklyn". Tickets cost £5 booked in advance (from the hall on 0151 342 2614) and £6 on the door (subject to availability).

WPWSphotoboothHeswall Hall were delighted to host their third Wirral Professionals Wedding Services Wedding Fayre on Sunday 17th January 2016. The weather was on the chilly side but it didn't stop bridal couples, their families and friends from visiting Heswall Hall and chatting to all the wedding supply companies about their special day. There was a magical atmosphere which was commented on by bridal parties and the suppliers exhibiting on the day.

Our highlight of the day was the camper van photo booth. A charming way for guests to commemorate the day www.pixelphotobooth.co.uk

Congratulations to Michael and Samantha, the winners of the Heswall Hall Win a Bottle of Bubbles draw. We wish you a lifetime of happiness together.

Frozen1Heswall Hall Cinema held a very special Christmas Frozen Singalong show on Tuesday 22nd December. Both the afternoon and evening performances were packed out with children in costumes, gleefully singing along and making use of the goody bags we provided (the finger lights were especially popular!) R'Marnies Drama School lead the singalong and were fantastic as Elsa, Anna and Olaf the snowman and the children were entranced by them, particularly when they posed for photos with them after the show. Many thanks to John Lack for organising such a wonderful event, all the staff and volunteers at Heswall Hall who helped it run so smoothly and the ladies of R'Marnies who were spectacular.
We look forward to next year's show!

FrozenSingalong Frozen at Heswall Hall on Tuesday 22nd December is proving to be very popular, not only through the demand for tickets, but also for our posters. So far, posters we have placed outside Linghams and in the Heswall Hall car park have been removed from our display boards, presumed stolen. Perhaps the thieves are attracted by our poster's colourful layout and think it is highly collectible, or it could be that they don't want anyone else to know about our wonderful show. Either way get your tickets now, while there are still some left.

Vicarofdibley1The Woolgatherers Of Heswall took over Heswall Hall for 5 nights last week as they staged their hilariously funny version of The Vicar of Dibley in aid of Comic Relief. Playing to a packed hall every night, they had the audience in stitches with their superb, spot on portrayals of the much loved characters.
For Alice and Hugo's wedding (complete with Teletubbies and flashing headress!) the hall itself became the church turning the audience into a delighted and giggling congregation.
Congratulations goes out to everybody involved with the show and we look forward to the next one.

All their dresses were bought from Cherish the Bride in West Kirby. A special thank you to Carole Strother for bringing these lovely ladies together for the event. As you can see from the photographs they looked stunning.

A big thank you to all the bridal couples and their families and friends that attended the Wedding Fayre, the wonderful WPWS suppliers who made the day so special and to the volunteers from Heswall Hall who gave their time to look after our special guests on the day.

ChocolatefountainThe second Taste of Heswall was held on Sunday 27th September and it was another huge success. Organised by the Heswall and District Business Association, local businesses and restaurants turned out in force to showcase their wares, many of them bringing samples of their delicious food and drinks. All the proceeds from the day go towards the Christmas lights for Heswall. The public had a great time and left with full stomachs and empty wallets!

Heswall Gardening Society held it's annual show at Heswall Hall on August 22nd and it was a colourful affair. The main hall was filled with exhibits of flowers, vegetables, cooking and photography and the mayor and mayoress (pictured) were on hand to inspect it all. The show was a great success, attracting people from far and wide but with one common love, gardening.

Xmaslights Despite still being in the throes of summer, Heswall is already thinking ahead and planning for this year's Christmas lights and festival. With no outside funding, the responsibilty for the lights falls squarely on the community of Heswall and, in particular, the independent traders who make up the Heswall Business Association (HDBA). As well as contributing personally, the HDBA have also started fundraising for lights with proceeds from the local farmers' market being put towards them and other events planned which will contribute.

As part of the community, you can help with this effort by donating to the fund. As you shop in Heswall, you'll notice that many of the independent traders have donation tins in their shops into which you can drop your spare change. In addition, the HDBA have set up a crowdfunding page at www.spacehive.com/heswall-christmas-festival and you can make a donation directly to the fund here.

There's no doubt that everyone wants to see a vibrant and thriving Heswall at Christmas and all help to achieve this is very gratefully received.

Let's make this Christmas a really spectacular one for Heswall.

Wirral Council leader, Phil Davies, has this week proposed his 5 year plan for improving the lives of people and businesses in Wirral.

Amongst his plans are those for community services within Wirral and we are very proud to say that he holds Heswall Hall up as his case study for what he hopes to achieve with these plans. Here's what he had to say about us:

  "Case Study: Heswall Hall
Heswall Hall is a shining example of how a vibrant, engaged and
dynamic Wirral community can transform an asset.
The Hall was transferred to Heswall Community Trust in September 2011
and, while still owned by Wirral Council, the Trust wholly manages its
operation, maintenance and finances.
The Hall is once again a prized-community asset with pre-school play
schemes, lunch clubs and tea dances among a huge variety of services
and activities on offer every week."

His proposals cover a wide variety of areas and if you'd like to read it in it's entirety you can download and view a copy from here http://www.wirral.gov.uk/news/30-06-2015/wirral-council-leader-pledges-2020-vision

Tasteofheswall1The bad weather didn't deter the people of Wirral from turning out on Sunday 31st May to support Heswall high street's first food, drink and business festival, Taste of Heswall. Organised by Heswall and District Business Association to raise money for Cash for Kids, hundreds poured through the doors of Heswall Hall to sample some of Heswall's finest restaurant food, drink their beers and wines and pet Charlie, the Shetland pony, from Parkgate Pony Sanctuary.
The response to this first event was amazing and huge thanks go out to the organisers, all the local traders who took part and the many people who joined us to make this a wonderful day.

1431695648533Heswall was the safest place on earth on Friday 15th May as a veritable who's who of superheroes took to the streets to raise money for Cash For Kids. Local shops and businesses banded together to support Superhero Day and serve their customers without revealing their true identity! Batman, Spiderman and Supergirl were out in force with help from some unlikely sources in the form of Santa Claus and Bananaman! Radio City paid us a visit in the form of Batman riding in with a fire engine and, not to be outdone, some of the local pets got in on the act too. Heswall Hall held a superhero themed Hester Hedgehog's playgroup with children dressing in costume and everyone got into the spirit. It was an amazing day and thanks go out to everybody who took part in it and donated.

You are all superheroes!

IMG247 2We welcomed Wirral Symphony Orchestra on Saturday to perform a night of "Strictly Beethoven". The sold out performance was met with rapturous applause as the audience took in the Egmont Overture and Symphony No.2 in D. The loudest applause though was, undoubtedly, for young William Bracken, an extremely talented pianist making his debut appearance performing Piano Concerto no.3 in C Minor. His stunning performance earned him repeated calls for an encore. Altogether, the night was a visual and musical treat and we're looking forward to hosting the orchestra again very soon.

VolunteerAs we grow the range of our community activities and events, we are looking for volunteers to help with the running of our Tea Dance, Lunch Club, Pre-School Play Scheme and Cinema Club as well as our shows and concerts. We also need volunteers to help make sure the hall is kept in an excellent state of repair.

If, from time to time, you have 2 or 3 hours to spare we would love to hear from you. The work is fun and you will make new friends as well as being part of a wonderful team that is making a real difference in the local community.

If you would like to be a volunteer or require further details please contact:

Comedy2Heswall Hall rang with the sound of laughter on Friday night when we hosted our first Hit & Run Comedy Club. MC, Ste Porter, got the night off to a cracking start and comedians, Brendan Riley and Mike Newall, topped the bill. Fun lovers turned out in force for a good laugh and they weren't disappointed. People are already asking when they'll be back proving that laughter really is the best medicine!

IMG217Sunday 15th February saw us playing host to a wedding fayre for the very first time and it was a resounding success.

DSCN5199

Thanks to Wirral Professional Wedding Services, of which we are now a member, and all the suppliers who took part, the hall looked absolutely stunning and our staff and volunteers pulled out all the stops to ensure our visitors were well looked after.

IMG230 Dozens of happy couples and brides-to-be braved the cold to visit us and all were impressed with our beautiful hall and the many local professionals who had stalls. We greeted everyone with complimentary bucks fizz, which went down a treat, and Fellici's Ice Cream Carts were there handing out free samples of their delicious ice cream. We even had a baby grand piano and live music courtesy of The Singing Piano Man.

It was such a success that we're already thinking about the next one so watch this space!
