We now have a chef on our team!

Yes, that's right, we are working with a qualified chef to provide freshly cooked food, initially at our Big Room events and concerts. This is for a trial period initially but we are confident that you will like the food and chef will want to stay on permanently to provide you with a variety of hot finger style food offerings.

For the Steely Don concert on Saturday 21st April, we will be offering a choice of freshly roasted beef or pork, also a vegetarian option. These will be served in large bread rolls, complete with a choice of apple sauce, horseradish and stuffing as well as the usual condiments. The food will be cooked in our commercial kitchen at Heswall Hall and will be available both pre-show and during the intervals.

We are keeping food prices to a reasonable level. For Steely Don, at just £3 per serving!

Image is for illustrative purposes only as we do not have a BBQ (yet!).

Abbarella Small

The Big Room crew did it again!

This time, they are working with ABBARELLA, a fabulous tribute to the 70's supergroup ABBA. This show promises to be great entertainment with great music, talented performances and a dazzling stage act with authentic costumes. The event will take place on Friday 13th July. This family friendly event would be a great way to start the schools summer holidays. Tickets (£10) are expected to sell out very quickly! Abbarella is a tribute in great demand and they perform in theatres and venues all over the country and beyond. You will be amazed at this show in Heswall Hall.

On 21st April, the Big Room Presents crew is launching a new concept for Heswall Hall - full stage rock and pop concerts featuring top acts, including original artists and top tribute bands too. The concerts will feature professional concert sound and lighting - we aim to create an experience comparable with some of the dedicated rock venues in the region.

The first concert on Saturday 21st April will see the highly rated Steely Don tribute band take the stage with two full sets of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen covers. Steely Don comprises 15 very accomplished musicians who provide a fabulous sound and a great stage presence. "If you're not a fan of Steely Dan at the moment, you certainly will be after the gig." mused Si Seabrook, Big Room compere.

Tickets for the first concert are now on sale at £10.

Matthew Dixon, member of the Big Room production team and a musician himself said "these are very exciting times; we're developing a great concert offer for people of all ages who appreciate live music. The support we are getting from musicians and Big Room fans from across Wirral, Merseyside and Cheshire is very encouraging." When asked to clarify his point about people of all ages, he quickly assured "We want families, and younger people, as well as adults, to enjoy these concerts - I've been going to rock concerts since I was eight or nine, it has certainly helped me become a lover of all things music."

Tickets for our big stage concerts will be offered for sale across Merseyside, Cheshire and beyond via popular online ticketing agencies. Tickets are also available from our own box office without addtional fees or charges.

Heswall Hall Community Trust regret to announce that Angus Clark passed away peacefully on 29 October 2017.

 ANGUS CLARK 1941-2017

AN APPRECIATION

Angus Clark was well known and respected by regular users of Heswall Hall following his crucial early involvement in saving the hall for the benefit of the community.

In 2009 Heswall Hall was threatened with closure. A Steering Group was formed to save it and ensure its transfer to the community. Angus was involved from the outset. He prepared the Business Plan and conducted complex negotiations with Wirral Council. When Heswall Hall Community Trust was formed, Angus became a Trustee and the Hall was transferred to the community in September 2011.

His excellent communication and organisational skills ensured that the users of the hall fully participated in the many changes required and that the transfer to community ownership went smoothly. He remained a Trustee until April 2016 thus enabling the Trust to make full use of the skills and experience acquired during his business career. Angus’ straightforward, no nonsense approach endeared him to friends and colleagues alike. His contribution was outstanding.

Finally, Angus was a kind, thoughtful person and a true gentleman who will be greatly missed by us all. Our thoughts are with his wife, Sally, and her two sons Jake and Mark.

**Updated on 14th December 2017**

Working with a small group of talented local musicians, Heswall Hall is developing a new music event and brand with the aim of appealing to a wider audience of live music fans. The new event series, promoted under the name "The Big Room Presents" will offer a number of live music events including "Three Bands Live" with the bands all on the main floor together and playing in rotation, using a format similar to that used on the BBC's Later with Jools Holland. We also plan bigger headline events and battle of the bands events in 2018 and beyond.

We will be developing this event format over the coming months, offering a range of musical styles and featuring talented artists from across Merseyside and Cheshire. In addition, an offshoot of this project will also see a number of smaller, more intimate music events taking place, giving the audience a chance to get to know the music and the bands, close up. Some of these events will include a late night jam session - local muso's can come along and join in. The audience will be invited to stay until the very end of the evening when the last musician stops playing.

UPDATE - Our December event was widely claimed to be a great success, with more than 130 people in the audience.

Tickets are now on sale for our next event on Friday 2nd February:

BAGGAphoto1An enthusiastic audience, at Heswall Hall, enjoyed a wonderful jazz concert by BAGGA!, a highly talented quartet of young musicians. Their first set consisted of jazz classics, which gave full scope to the wide range of their individual and collective musical skills. Their trumpeter, who is only 16 years of age, stunned the audience with his brilliant playing. The second set contained music written by their leader and pianist, Will Bracken, who is taking jazz to a new level with his innovation and sheer musical talent. All four clearly have great futures in music. The Hall is delighted to have played a part in showcasing their talents.

StreetCat1Heswall Hall cinema had it's biggest ever audience for the recent showing of 'A Street Cat Named Bob' which, unusually for cinema, received a round of applause at the end. A large number of the audience hadn't been to our cinema before and were impressed with the large screen, the clarity of image and sound, as well as the excellent organisation and friendly atmosphere. Our next film is A United Kingdom on Wednesday 12th April.

Weddingfayrefeb20174This week we unveiled our new look bar, designed and built by Paul O'Hare Interior Design. Stylish and modern, with up to the minute fittings and incorporating a flat screen TV to keep our visitors up to date on what's happening at the hall, it's an exciting step in the refurbishment of the hall. And it goes without saying, we still have an impressive array of wines, beers and spirits from which to choose. We couldn't be happier with our amazing new bar and we look forward to welcoming you all for a drink.

WirralMetgala6Students from Wirral Metropolitan College took to the catwalk for a colourful "world tour" during a gala show.
On display were fashions inspired by the themes of London, Africa, Rio, Egypt, Las Vegas and world landmarks.
The creations of hair and beauty apprentices were paraded on the catwalk during an event held at Heswall Hall, in front of 100 invited guests.
Models took to the catwalk to the loud applause of the guests, who included the students' families, and friends, and employers who also went along to support the apprentices.
The catering students also excelled, by serving up a themed three course dinner
Sue Higginson, principal of Wirral Met College told the Globe " What can I say about this evening?
Hospitality and catering; the meal was beautiful, hairdressing and beauty therapy; the creativity was tops."
(Thank you to Craig Manning and the Wirral Globe for providing the pictures, and editorial)

Heswall Hall would like to add their own congratulations to the Winners of the Awards on the night: Tasha Griffiths, Lola Heygarth, Laura Lally, Andrea Atherton, Caroline Crane
We look forward to welcoming Wirral Metropolitan College back next year.

FitnessLeague1It was a day of fun fitness for the members of Heswall's Fitness League on Sunday 10th April as they celebrated the milestone of 50 years of classes. Class teacher, Janice Gronow, and members gathered to participate in exercise, fun and, of course, cake! They raised over £1000 which is to be donated to Wirral Hospice St.John. Classes are held at the hall every Wednesday 10:00-11:15am and you can find more information at www.thefitnessleague.com

Chocolate6For many, the word "chocolate" is usually subsequently followed by groans of delight and much drooling and this was certainly the case for the people who attended our Chocolate Experience on Tuesday 5th April. Under the tutelage of master chocolatier, Michael Levy, the audience were led through the history, geography and botany of chocolate from cocoa bean to luxury truffle with Michael recounting his own personal anecdotes throughout. Of course, the main attraction was, undoubtedly, the sampling of the products but there was no free for all gorging but, instead, a carefully curated array of samples from cocoa mass and cocoa butter to hand dipped chocolates and truffles which Michael guided the audience through explaining the nuances of taste, texture and design.

Nothing went to waste as guests were given doggy bags at the end of the evening in order to gather up remaining samples to take home and enjoy later. It was an evening designed to stimulate the brain as well as the taste buds and it didn't fail in either respect.
